PROJECT

Kahala Residence

Kahala, Oʻahu

The clients hired architect Matthew Goyke and Tantalus Studio to reimagine this 1961 midcentury home with a more contemporary aesthetic, while expanding on and celebrating the connection between indoor and outdoor spaces throughout the property. As Matthew Goyke the architect for this renovation succinctly described, the goal was to create “a balance between legacy aesthetics and contemporary aesthetics. An easy gracious Hawaiian spirit blended with modern materials, techniques and lifestyle”. The final result is a sophisticated and understated home that feels both timeless and contemporary. The home feels rooted in its Hawaii locale, and succeeds in bridging the gap between a relaxed tropical and elevated aesthetic.
